Shining Stars
Another week of songs, music, and movement from the smallest group. The Alphabet song, phonics song, shapes, and colours songs have all been explored. This group is still learning how to accurately use their bodies and as such, these songs and dances are a great way to get the children used to their general motor skills whilst also actively and passively listening to English.
MrRicky has also spent some time with the children on a more individual level, asking them some questions and helping them to answer with either spoken or gesticulated responses.
Cherry Smiles
A review of the alphabet sounds has kept the group busy learning related vocabulary and some basic sentence structures. Vocabulary associated with these letters has taken place, and role play has been an important part in the children being able to recall the vocabulary. Kinaesthetic games have been played, with the group becoming more confident with their movements.
Happy Faces
Letters S, A, and T have been the review and focus of the week. However, unlike the younger classes, this group is more confident in their skills, and they can be given more to look at and to do.
Attention and concentration has also been a main theme this week. Of an age where the children like to explore, ask questions, and have the ability to choose what they would prefer to do, it was important to have the class attempt to complete what they start. A difficult task, it is the hope that they slowly learn to understand the value in finishing what they have started and take pride in their achievements.
Preschool
Still in the process of review, the preschoolers have been reminding themselves of previously learnt topics, and trying to use English to communicate their wants and needs to their peers and teachers. The oldest group are quite confident in their understanding of English, but further practice is needed to get them to start using it themselves.
Final Note
Sweets/Candy
Please do not give your children sweets, candy, chewing gum, or any other sugary foodstuffs to bring to the kindergarten. We understand that these sweets are effectively a “bribe”, but this can be offered as a “reward” for completing the day at school, rather than a reward for getting to school.
At school it is important that children are aware of healthy eating habits, as well as learning to make their own choices. By giving your child sweets to take to school it undermines our goals, as well as not being a good thing to have first thing in the morning.
Clothes
At Cambridge Kids, we love to see the children be active and explore their environment hands-on. Children are naturally curious and it is very important to encourage that curiosity. As a result, they may get a little mucky and their clothes could get a little dirty.
Please ensure that your child has a spare change of clothes for school, as well as not dressing them in anything that you would not wish them to get a little messy.
