Highlighting their activities, and giving a brief explanation on how this helps your child develop, we hope that you will be able to understand a little more about the academic processes involved in the children learning English as a Second Language (ESL)

Shining Stars

Letter F for frog, fish, fall and other related vocabulary has been looked at, with the kids attempting to sound out the letter sound, as well as trying their best to learn the vocabulary. Flashcards and games have seen the group use their improving general motor skills to identify the different vocabulary and themes of the week.

Cherry Smiles

Our mini Halloween event was enjoyed by the group, with some games and Halloween themed activities. Pin the tail on the cat, feed the pumpkin, and find the missing pumpkin were all games that the children enjoyed thoroughly. The letter M was also the focus of the week, with the group being read the story “The Mitten”, and subsequently crafting their own “mittens” from paper, ribbon, and other materials.

Happy Faces

Music, Movement, Movies, and Maps were all part of the groups learning of the letter M. Songs, dances, short videos, and crafts helped with their learning, while trying to ensure they got the letter sounds correct. The group also coloured in a map and used a mixture of water and coffee granules to soak their maps, giving them an antiquated look. Halloween was also fun. The children’s costumes were great, and a few games of “throw the spider on the web”, “toilet roll mummy wrap”, and some others were great fun for the class to be involved in.

Preschool

Mostly a crafty week for the oldest group as this week saw them make maps, mummies, pumpkins, ghosts, and other Halloween themed crafts. Getting the group interested in the arts is a great way of letting them express themselves, while building on their motor skills, and general knowledge. Outdoor games have also featured heavily. The snowy weather has been a pleasure for the kids, as we helped one another make mini snowpeople, played with snowballs, and enjoyed the change of scenery in general

Final Note

Clothes

Again we are noticing that some children are unprepared for the cold weather. It is imperative that they are clothed appropriately for snow. GLOVES, HATS, SCARVES, SNOW PANTS, and WARM JACKETS.

It is upsetting for the children to not be able to have the most fun that they would like as a result of not having the appropriate garments.
